Javier Carbonell
Policy Analyst
Javier Carbonell is a Policy Analyst at the European Politics and Institutions Programme working on threats to democracy, the far right and citizen’s participation. Javier has worked on democratic backsliding in Europe, the evolution of far right discourse, eco-nationalism, youth participation and the political consequences of inequality.

Javier is Deputy Director of Future Policy Lab and co-editor of "La Desiguladad en España", a book about inequality in Spain. Javier is also a PhD candidate at the University of Edinburgh, where he studies how mainstream parties nationalize environmental policies and how far right parties employ eco-nationalist ideologies. He teaches two courses at Sciences Po, Paris (as enseignant vacataire), one on transdisciplinary approaches to inequality and another on critical theories of International Relations. He has also taught at Pompeu Fabra University, Carlos III University and the University of Edinburgh.

Javier is an Associate at LSE IDEAS, a member of ASEN (Association for the Study of Ethnicity and Nationalism), and a co-founder of BK2, a non-profit association to help Spanish students study abroad. He has also been a Visiting Fellow at CIDOB and a member of the editorial board of Millennium: Journal of International Studies.
