Bringing six years of research on asylum and migration to a close, this hybrid conference will provide insights into some of the critical findings of MEDAM (Mercator Dialogue on Asylum and Migration) since 2016. Decision-makers, academics, and think tankers will come together for four dedicated sessions: (i) migration and development cooperation; (ii) EU–Turkey relations on migration; (iii) public attitudes on migration and asylum; and (iv) the future of responsibility-sharing and solidarity in the EU.
The panellists will discuss how to achieve an effective design for development policies that also target the root causes of migration. Other key topics for discussion include the future of EU–Turkey relations on migration and refugee protection in an evolving geopolitical context, as well as the determinants of public preferences on migration and refugee protection and what implications they should have for policymaking. The conference will also address the EU’s response to displacement from Ukraine and how it may shape EU debates on responsibility-sharing and solidarity, as well as the negotiations on the New Pact more broadly.
