As the urgency to accelerate the green transition grows, citizens are asked to play a more active and central role. Their contribution can bring multiple benefits to the process, from providing first-hand insights to tackle specific policy trade-offs to encouraging community action. Citizens’ participation also helps secure people’s buy-in and increase the legitimacy of the whole process.
Digital tools, such as apps, online platforms, and artificial intelligence, can facilitate bottom-up engagement and enable communities to contribute to decision-making via different means of participatory democracy actively.
In this context, the project “Digitalisation for the green transition: Empowering community action” aims to:
- Consider the opportunities and challenges in using data and digital solutions to empower community action for the green transition.
- Discuss how the EU’s policy and financial framework can support these efforts.
